Hume Fogg Wrestling
Team Rules
1) Speak and act like a winner. Then wrestle like one.
2) Wrestle with intensity; practice the way you wrestle.
3) Attend every practice and be on time; all exceptions require prior notice and a specific make-up plan. Always bring water and appropriate workout gear to practice.
4) Integrity and honesty are crucial—you represent your school, your team, and yourself. Exhibit personal honesty in all that you do—in the classroom, at weigh-ins, on the mat, and in all your endeavors. All homework is expected in on time: your teammates rely on your eligibility; colleges love scholar-athletes.
5) Whether provided by the school or bought by a parent, your gear is your own responsibility to keep up with.
6) Know the rules. Know your bout number. Know the plan.
7) During weigh-ins, remain quiet and orderly. After a match, shake the opposing coach's hand and report back to your coach.
8) Keep your hair legal or have a hair net. If you let your hairnet distracts you or delay the match, then you're cutting your hair.
9) Do not talk to the referee, unless he asks you a question. Tell me what you want, and I'll decide whether to approach the referee about it.
10) During breaks in the action (during your match) look at me for instruction. Between periods, you can look to me for "choice," but it is ultimately your decision.
11) Do not throw your headgear or complain about calls; keep your cool, or get it back. If there is time on the clock, you can still win.
12) All team members are expected to stay with the team until everyone is done wrestling (dual meets and tournaments). Exceptions should be discussed in advance.
13) We wrestle over breaks. Plan accordingly.
14) Earn respect on the mat by being relentless; earn it in the practice room by being persistent, earn it on the team by being supportive.
15) No excuses. None. That doesn't mean "no mistakes"—it means doing everything you can to recover from the mistakes you make, and training to make that possible.
16) Have fun. Pursue excellence. It's just a sport, but you can make it a great one for you.
